Forest-reflective Lake Charleviox has a long standing reputation
among pleasure boat boaters as the perfect gateway-to-the-world
with its easy access to Lake Michigan via the Pine River Channel.
The Channel bisects the city and joins Lake Charlevoix, Round
Lake and Lake Michigan. As well as having well-protected harborage,
Lake Charlevoix is one of the best and most exciting under fished
lakes in Michigan.
Lake Charlevoix, in addition to most of the Great Lakes species,
holds walleye, northern pike, bass and bluegill. With trout and
salmon migrating from Lake Michigan into Lake Charlevoix, the
angler has an opportunity to fish for Great Lakes size trophies
on calm, protected waters.
During the winter, Lake Charlevoix freezes solid to afford
excellent ice-fishing opportunities. The Lake Charlevoix area
Trout Tournament takes place the second weekend in June, offering
thousands of dollars in prizes and a host of activities.
The Lake Charlevoix Association, an open membership organization,
was formed 25 years ago to aid in the formation and establishment
of local policies and practices designed to conserve, restore,
protect and regulate the natural resources of Lake Charlevoix.
The association advocates responsible lake usage and development
to insure water quality. Through active participations in a continuing
project of sampling lake water and its tributaries, the association
pursues other water quality studies and provides education programs
to the public.
All in all, Lake Charlevoix is truly one of the most beautiful
jewels in mother nature's crown.
